healing from the pandemic
One of the best feelings ever was walking into church today and seeing several people that I had not seen in ages present! The sanctuary was pulsing with energy and it was a beautiful experience. Have you ever been unwell and then hung out with friends and you feel completely fine? That’s what church is like these days.
Two weeks ago we were driving home and the sun was setting. I looked out the window and marvelled at how beautiful the sky looked. Yes, I live in the land of the living skies and I should be used to it, but I’m not. Also, I took a walk the other day and marvelled at how it was cold and snowy a few months ago and now the grass is as green as can be and trees and plants are thriving.
The sun and rains have been good for the trees and plants. And you should know that the trees and plants are good for you. After all, you were designed to dwell in beautiful nature. The garden of Eden.
We have been shut up for over a year, and I think the mental and emotional bruises isolation has caused can be healed like the ground has been healed.
I am currently enjoying summer to the best of my ability. That’s why I skipped out on writing last week. We had a packed weekend with great company. I am attempting to heal from isolation and re-energize by doing what I can when I can. Hence, I’ll slow down and write once a month until further notice.. hehe. Bear with me.
Now, how can you enjoy this season? And heal from the pandemic?
Take walks: apart from the health benefits of walking, there are mental and emotional benefits as well. I have loved walking ever since I can remember and I know it has impacted my endurance and health. One thing you can do for yourself this season is to take walks every week. Also, there are more people out and they are so friendly. Everyone seems to be happy to be out and alive. Take a walk. You’ll thank me later.
Play team sports: Wether it’s kicking a ball around or playing tag. Engage in outdoor activities and interact with other people, while you’re at it. First, find out if there’re any organized sports in your community, church, or workplace. Then go from there. Otherwise, ask your friends if they’re interested.
Go on a trip.. road or air: get a change of scenery to reboot. Travel, if you can. You can carpool or fly somewhere that’s safe and within your budget. Get out there…and take precautions while you’re at it though.
Hang out: if you have a yard, then you can have a bonfire! If you don’t they can hang out in your living room. Either way, invite people over (as per the regulations were you reside) and play games. Most people just need to be invited. You’d be surprised at how well an invitation is received. However, ask at least two weeks prior to your event and prepare for your guests. You can also go visit parks around you, have a picnic by yourself or with friends, go hiking, or fishing. And do so as often as you possibly can.
Enjoy summer treats: I endorse the occasional ice cream! I am honestly not a huge ice-cream fanatic but I do find the treat enjoyable once or twice a month. Enjoy cold treats now but be sure to do everything in moderation.
In essence and despite the points above, Jesus is the only one that can grant you healing and guide you towards taking steps to fellowship and reintegrate, heal, and reenergize.
