dare you to move

One of my favorite songs in the whole world is Dare you to move ~ by Switchfoot. I love this song and it’s my motivation song.

A few years ago I went on my first trip alone. Everyone thought I was joking. My dad didn’t pay attention when I said I would. My brother and mum half believed me and half didn’t. I had never done anything like it before and was going to a big city in another country. Even the person I initially planned to go with did not seem to believe me because she left without me.

I had made up my mind. I did not like to go to strange places, I had hardly even been on sleepovers before then because I have to have a nice bathroom and a nice bed. Despite the uncertainty of it all and the possibility of getting lost. I woke my mum up after I had gotten ready and my gracious host had called. Soon we were off to catch the bus at 6 am.

Due to nerves, I forgot my jacket and my snack. I tuned out everything, said goodbye to my mum and brother, and got on the bus. It felt strange. I was going away for two weeks with no member of my family. It also felt exhilarating.

Since I took that step I have not felt fear at going to a new place. I understand that one will always experience much more and much better than was anticipated outside their comfort zone. I had loads of fun because I decided to take a leap of faith.

I was also fortunate to experience things and enjoy myself because my host made sure I and her sister went out to places on our own despite the strangeness of it all.

Whenever you have the opportunity to do or try something new, please do. Courage is a great virtue. Countless Biblical characters had courage working for them Noah, Moses, David, and so many others. Joshua 1:7a ‘Only be strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law’.

I do hope you decide to do what you’ve needed to do for a while now. Apply for that job, take that course, start that craft, start exercising, go on that trip, and make that phone call. The world is waiting for you. Get on that train and go. {Save first:-)}

Since then I have gone on solo trips to cities in North America like Calgary, New York, Washington DC. Don’t get me wrong, I have learned to value and appreciate trips with friends and family but in a different way. A solo trip is a different experience entirely.
